This course is set up to meet the Statutory requirements of the DFES Early Years Foundation Stage 2007 - Paediatric First Aid. The course is interactive and practical course with the emphasis on understanding the principles of ill or injured younger child - from birth to five years. The balance between practical and theory work encourages enthusiastic participation. The courses are ratified by a comprehensive role play session. The role plays are the best part of the course!

The Childcare Act 2006 places a specific legal requirement through the Early Years Foundation Stage 2007, from September 2008, and the regulations apply to all schools and early years providers in Ofsted registered settings attended by young children. The regulations go on to say "At least one person who has a current Paediatric First Aid Certificate must be on the premises at all times when children are present. There must be at least one person on outings who has a current Paediatric First Aid Certificate"

The course is run over two days with 12 contact hours including the role plays. Two certificates are awarded:- an "Appointed Persons" Certificate in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive (First Aid) Regulations 1981, and a "Paediatric First Aid" certificate.
